Moshe Z. Marvit was sworn-in as a Commissioner on March 25, 2024.  Moshe formerly served as a Supervisory Attorney-Advisor in FMSHRC’s Pittsburgh field office.  Prior to coming to FMSHRC, he worked in private practice, representing the United Steelworkers, and employees in pension and discrimination matters.  Moshe has also served as a member of the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, the Duquesne University School of Law, the Pennsylvania State Unemployment Compensation Advisory Council, and the Steel Valley Authority.  He received his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he also earned a Certificate in Labor and Employment Law.  He has an M.A. from the University of Chicago, an M.A. from Carnegie Mellon University and a B.A. from the Pennsylvania State University.

Due to the possible lapse of appropriations, the Federal Mine Safety and Health Review Commission (“Commission”) Office of the Chief Administrative Law Judge may be closed for an indefinite period beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024. Administrative Law Judges will not consider any documents filed in their individual cases or having a due date during the period of closure until after funding has been restored and the Commission resumes business operations. Following reopening of the Commission, Administrative Law Judges will handle any filings on a case-by-case basis.
